  • Friday - Review period (Jeopardy) for quiz on Monday

Pregnancy, Birth and Infant Care 06 - Diseases of Pregnancy and Birth

In this assignment, you will be responsible for doing the teaching. You will take responsibility for one of the following topics and you will offer the class a brief overview of what your particular disease is and how it affects pregnancy including mothers and infants.

  • Sciatica
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Gestational Diabetes
  • Preeclampsia and Eclampsia
  • Spina Bifida
  • Post-partum depression
  • Toxoplasmosis
  • Fetal Alcohol Syndrome
  • Turner’s (Down) Syndrome
  • Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
  • Tay-Sachs Disease
  • Mongolian Spot

You will need to answer the following questions for the class.

  1. What is the syndrome or disease?
  2. What anatomical or physiological structures does it affect?
  3. What screening techniques exist to spot or diagnose this disease or syndrome?
  4. What signs and symptoms exist for mother and child with this disease or syndrome?
  5. What treatment options, if any are there for this syndrome or disease?
  6. What preventative measures can be used to mitigate these problems?
  7. What long term effects can this syndrome have?

You will have three class periods to research this project and to be ready to present it. Presentations begin Tuesday March 15th.

How you present is, as ever, up to you.
